The business comprises of
warehouses situated in the 4 major centres of
George (4,000 square metres)
Port Elizabeth
(4,000 square metres)
East
London (4,000 square metres)
Mthatha.
( 250 square metres)
All the depots are leased by
the Company. The George warehouse is owned by an
affiliate company.
The current operation consists
of bulk shipments into the depots from the supplying
production facilities and onward break bulk
transport to customers by the Company.
The Company also undertakes
inter-city transport when demand requires. This
would mainly be for 34 ton loads by superlink.
Each depot is staffed by a
Depot Controller and support staff . All staff have
proven experience in various aspects of warehouse
and distribution administration and operation.
Each depot has a fleet of
trucks allocated according to the product and
customer needs, i.e. retails chains and urban
independent stores in the cities to rural
wholesalers and independent retailers in the country
towns.
In all depots, the drivers are
remunerated on performance subject to the provisions
of the National Bargaining Council for the Road
Freight Industry. This has been found to be highly
effective in achieving quick vehicle turn around and
high vehicle utilization.
A fully equipped vehicle
workshop is situated in East London where the
trained staff carry out mechanical and body repairs
to the vehicles.
